The Dassie or Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensus) is an iconic animal. Despite the enormous difference in size, Dassies are the nearest relatives of Elephants as they share similarities in the structure of their teeth and their feet! As this picture shows, they love basking on rocks during the early mornings and late afternoons. They live in colonies of up to sixty individuals. I enjoy watching the different expressions on their faces.
