ANOTHER LEOPARD TORTOISE

A different Leopard Tortoise allowed me to take a closer look at it while it crossed a country road:

  1. What a handsome tortoise. Where abouts was this lovely creature? I have seen one similar (or same species?) in Florida. I don’t know my tortoise species.

  2. Great closeups, Anne. I wonder if you are seeing many lately because they are ‘migrating’ to breeding or wintering grounds? We see ours moving in June/July to breeding grounds and rarely see them other times of the year.

    • Tortoise movement here is mostly related to the availability of food and water, their reproductive status and local environmental conditions. The availability of water is especially important and, given the long drought and the heat we are experiencing, it is likely that they are on the move in search of water especially.
