Perhaps … there were three of them: two remained on the one side of the road while this one did the running and jumping. It simply isn’t worth driving fast on a country road in the late afternoon and so we had plenty of time to stop.

At least this wasn’t a game fence and there was plenty of space in which to prepare for the jump. Further along, this particular road passes between very high game fences on either side. Kudu can become quite frantic then and one has to watch out for panic behaviour on their part and be very, very patient until they have decided what to do.
