The Karoo National Park is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend a few days in. Imagine watching a Helmeted Guineafowl pecking at the ground as it makes its way to a nearby bird bath for a drink:
Or watching a Mountain Tortoise chewing on a blade of grass growing close to the chair you are sitting on:
What about going for a drive and stopping to admire these beautiful mountains:
Think of the wonder of coming across a magnificent pair of Gemsbok in the plains:
Then following a windy road into the hills, only to stop to admire this beautiful scenery:
Driving even further under the beautiful blue sky, you stop again to drink in this vista that seems to go on forever:
There is peace, a tranquility that is difficult to beat … and in between all of this beauty are trees, birds and a variety of other animals to look out for!
Hi Anne, I haven’t been to the Karoo National Park. It looks lovely 😊

Apparently a lot of visitors merely use it as a convenient overnight stop on their way from the Western Cape to Johannesburg or the Kruger National Park. We spoke to a few of these who hadn’t even bothered to leave the camp for a drive. We too use it as a break on our way to or from the Cape, but spend several days there at a time. It is very beautiful.

I do enjoy the Karoo, very interesting. I’ll keep it in mind for when we go to CPT.

Thank you for taking us there. Before I start using my imagination, you would have tell me what the temperature is. It looks quite hot and dry.

It was hot, dry and very windy at times … and then came the mother of all thunderstorms that had us all scurrying for cover. I’m pleased to report that we remained dry in our tent 🙂

The air there is so clean and crisp that you almost feel as if you can touch the mountains from afar.

It is a lovely park – from the tiny to the wide vistas. The campsite sounds lovely. We have stayed at Afsaal Cottage, which is charming and rustic and provides plenty of solitude. Thinking we should visit there again before too long. Thanks for the reminder.

The rest camp area is one of the best we have stayed in – although at the time we were in one of only two tents there. It seemed most visitors were in caravans of one sort or another 🙂
