This first photograph will give you an idea of how small my reading companion was.
It appeared on the edge of the magazine I was reading. I don’t know if you do this, but I photographed it with my cell phone in order to get a closer look at it.
What a strange looking creature! I put the magazine on the carpet and watched as it stepped off the page.
It settled onto the carpet.
Where it nestled between the fibres.
Does anyone have any idea what it might be?
Looks to be some form of crab spider.

I thinks so too, although I haven’t found a picture of one quite like this. The large – almost fused – front legs remind me of pincers.

I’ve never seen such a thing! Did you take it outdoors?

No, it was late at night so I left it on the carpet. It was gone in the morning.

It is exactly what I would call a ‘creepie crawlie’. 🙂

I agree it fits squarely into that category!

Yikes! Spider best left outdoors 😏

Soos jy van die eerste foto kan sien, is hierdie een baie klein.

Ek sou nie so naby gekyk het nie, maar dit is mooi foto’s. Soos altyd.

Dit is die eerste keer dat ek so ‘n spinnekop (?) sien en daar was nie ‘n vergroot glas naby nie.

Ek verstaan so, jy is waaghalsig. Wonder wat is dit?

I don’t know, but I hope it’s not a tarantula!

At least there is no chance of that!

Yep. I use my 30x zoom camera (a small point & shoot) both as magnifying glass and telescope.

Oh, I use my camera as a ‘telescope’ too!

It had disappeared by morning – I can’t help wondering what your mandala treatment of it might have looked like: probably very fearsome!

Whoa! A spider?

Fortunately it is very tiny so it didn’t interfere with my reading. Any large and my reaction would have been very different!

Fascinating little spider – never noticed one of those …

It is so tiny that, had it not appeared on the page, I would not have noticed it either. It is at times like these that a cell phone camera comes in handy.

Indeed. Coincidentally I came across a very similar tiny spider on a sapling in the garden today. It kept disappearing round the other side of a twig when I tried to photograph it.
