The grey cloud hiding the sun bears no promise of rain, rather it acts like a lid on a steaming pot. A Black-headed Oriole is making desultory calls outside, otherwise there is no sound. It feels as if the air is too thick to breathe. A pick-me-up tea is called for to break the day and how fortunate I am that I was given a packet of this tea for Christmas:
Of course we don’t have IKEA here, but if you do it will be worth giving their Black Chai with Ginger and Elderberries a try. This is part of their EGENTID tea series. When you open the foil packet you are immediately party to a most delicious aroma … place the organic loose leaf tea in your tea pot or an infuser and enjoy the wonderful bouquet developing as the boiled water goes to work. This tea is full of ‘bits’ and contains no artificial colours or preservatives. Unfortunately, I cannot be absolutely certain of all of the ingredients mentioned in the fine print:
The tea is gloriously rich in colour, is full-bodied and absolutely delicious! It is grown by UTZ certified farmers. I am not familiar with the UTZ certification so had to look it up. This certification shows consumers that products have been sourced, from farm to shop shelf, in a sustainable manner. To become certified, all UTZ suppliers have to follow a Code of Conduct, which offers expert guidance on better farming methods, working conditions and care for nature. This in turn leads to better production, a better environment and a better life for everyone.
Next time I’m in IKEA (not a very frequent occurrence as our nearest one is a couple of hours away) I’ll need to look out for their teas. Loose-leaf tea seems to be very difficult to come by around here nowadays.

Loose leaf tea is far more flavoursome than bagged tea.

Gotta be more environmentally friendly too, instead of all those individually packaged bags! Not to mention the microplastics in the bags themselves.

Thank you, Derrick. The cloud cover has now given way to blue sky and very high temperatures. The tea cheered me up though.

I prefer loose tea myself. This sounds like it might be good iced, which I drink during the day in summer. First cup of the day must be hot however. 😉
Hope you get a break in the weather soon.

Sounds nice, I’ll have to see if they carry it at our local store.

Our supermarkets carry a limited variety of teas; I hope you have better luck.

Do you usually add sugar and/or milk to your tea? I don’t like sugar usually, but when it’s chai, the spices are too bitter otherwise. The Indians have *lots* of milk and sugar in their chai, as I found out when my daughter’s Indian housekeeper would persuade us to have some in the afternoon for a traditional pick-me-up!

I generally add a dash of milk to the black-based teas. I too do not enjoy sugar in my tea.

I’m glad the tea cheered you up Anne. We have had a dry week again and another hot dry one predicted for this week. I am not much of a tea drinker so cannot share your enthusiasm, but I do love my coffee and it is my go to drink when I need a pick me up. Lovely description of the mood of the day.

Thank you. We too are in for a blistering week. We’ve had no water in our taps since Saturday …

I hope you have water back in the taps by now. I am rather conservative when it comes to tea – I drink black tea (loose leaf) or white tea (have only found bagged but I see one can order loose leaf online from local suppliers so I might do that one day). However, this tea looks most intriguing, and it certainly sounds like you need an effective and tasty pick-me-up tea given the drought and the water outages.

A regular supply of water in taps is a lovely thought: the town supply was switched off yesterday afternoon and we might have it back by sometime on Friday. Better news: a wonderful thunderstorm on Monday yielded 30mm!

I hope you get it back tomorrow. How nice though that you got some rain this week. Perhaps you have had more since? Its been absolutely tipping here both yesterday evening and late today with more forecast.
